I use the product for hiking, normally pulling up the sleeves for a cooler wear. Occasionally I run into areas heavy with mosquitos, that's where the sleeves save the day. And don't let the long sleeves fool you - can be worn on warmer days due to the excellent moisture control and subsequent cooling of the skin surface. No more cotton tshirts for me. This is an excellent alternative to a long sleeved, collared, button front hiking shirt.

Rincon Valley Fire District sponsored the Fire Safety Merit Badge and the Windsor Fire Department joined in for hands-on training and equipment demonstration. You can't buy this level of service! And throw in 70+ degrees in the middle of February....it's a go ghost rider!

It was a dark and stormy night....AFTER we hiked Mt. Whittenburg during the day. Misty and grey, we crested the peak and made it back down in one piece. Another cool hiking day.

Our 42nd Annual Pancake Breakfast was a resounding success! Everyone worked hard and enjoyed the time spent together. Good food, good scouts, good leaders, neighbors and sponsors. Another fortunate year for Troop 134.

A few hearty souls ventured out in the rain to lend some effort to a cleanup project in our neighborhood. Congratulations and earned "service hours" to those that participated!

It just so happened that Beach Cleanup Day was being sponsored by REI at Doran Beach. So we did our duty. 800lbs and 21 miles of coast cleaned up. Most debris turned out to be little plastic shards and cigarette butts. Oh, and also, Westley turned 18 this day...too old to be a Boy Scout. Congratulations!

Who'd have thought it would be as smooth an operation as it was? We started at 6:30am with the sunrise, lunched in Forestville at noon for an hour and completed 20 miles by 3:30pm. FAST! Weather cooperated, trail was easy-peasy and very interesting (did I say flat?) and those were awesome burgers at lunch! This will earn the Hiking Merit Badge for some.

Over the weekend we completed another stellar Eagle Project. The Sonoma County Wildlife Rescue now has electrical conduit installed in underground trenches from the house/main building down to junction boxes at two areas: the Mountain Lion Enclosure and another at the FUTURE Otter Pond!. This will allow pumps, lights and heaters to easily be added.

Another successful summer camp. Little Camp Noyo hosted three troops for a week. It was challenging and we met the challenge....everyone's more skilled for the effort.

Wonderfully cool, sunny and clear day. We took the long way home and did 10 miles up 1500 feet and down. Worth it every step of the way. Next time we stop at the top to camp!

The weather was on our side. We caught a break in the cold and wet days we've been having. Sunshine and breezes made it a beautiful day to hike the Presidio, explore Ft. Baker, hike down the Coast Trail and do the Golden Gate Bridge crawl!

We took advantage of a rare "dry" weekend morning to practice using a compass. All the guys were prepared to learn how to take a bearing, estimate distance and determine their stride length.

Camporee 2009

The theme for Camporee 2009 was Star Wars. Really?!! Well, I have an idea: how about REAL STORMTROOPERS? The 501st Garrison generously volunteered to send representatives to the event.

Happy scouts at breakfast time. What's the 13th Scout Law? A scout is always hungry!

Enter the troop with the troopers. The boys had only just been told what was happening. The whole camp was already assembled at the parade grounds. Troop 134 entered in grand style!

Pumpkin Patch 2009

2009 was our first year helping out at the Pumpkin Patch. We tried and succeeded in putting up a 3,500 pound climbing wall in soft, wet dirt. We raised $350 to pay for new tents and gear for the troop. The corn maze was closed due to mud and water, so that was a little bit of a letdown. But overall we all had alot of fun.

We held our annual Pancake Breakfast in November. We raised funds to run the troop for the year and sold tickets to the breakfast to help send scouts to summer camp.
